A UNESCO biosphere reserve roughly 1.5 to 2 hours south of La Paz, rising into cooler pine-oak forest, granite peaks, and spring-fed pools — Baja's "island in the sky." The classic ascent to Picacho de la Laguna is a full-day-plus or overnight trek, usually approached from the La Burrera side near Todos Santos on a rough dirt road. Best done with a local guide; East Cape access is self-guided and remote.
